Multi-Valued Solution and Level Set Methods in Computational High Frequency Wave Propagation
We review the level set methods for computing multi-valued solutions to a class of nonlinear first order partial differential equations, including Hamilton-Jacobi equations, quasi-linear hyperbolic equations, and conservative transport equations with multi-valued transport speeds. The multivalued solutions are embedded as the zeros of a set of scalar functions that solve the initial value probl...
متن کاملHigh-order methods for computational wave propagation and scattering
This workshop was concerned with the development of numerical methods for wave propagation with a focus on high-order convergence for general scattering configurations (with applicability to complex and singular geometries and high frequency problems), including integral equations, finite-difference and finite-element algorithms, spectral and Fourier based approaches and hybrids of asymptotic a...
متن کاملPolynomial Preserving Recovery for High Frequency Wave Propagation
Polynomial preserving recovery (PPR) was first proposed and analyzed in Zhang and Naga in SIAM J Sci Comput 26(4):1192–1213, (2005), with intensive following applications on elliptic problems. In this paper, we generalize the study of PPR to high-frequency wave propagation. Specifically, we establish the supercloseness between finite element solution and its interpolation with explicit dependen...
متن کاملConvergence of Frozen Gaussian Approximation for High Frequency Wave Propagation
The frozen Gaussian approximation provides a highly efficient computational method for high frequency wave propagation. The derivation of the method is based on asymptotic analysis. In this paper, for general linear strictly hyperbolic system, we establish the rigorous convergence result for frozen Gaussian approximation. As a byproduct, higher order frozen Gaussian approximation is developed.
متن کاملFrozen Gaussian Approximation for High Frequency Wave Propagation
We propose the frozen Gaussian approximation for computation of high frequency wave propagation. This method approximates the solution to the wave equation by an integral representation. It provides a highly efficient computational tool based on the asymptotic analysis on phase plane. Compared to geometric optics, it provides a valid solution around caustics. Compared to the Gaussian beam metho...
